A personal story and practice tips from a highly sensitive yoga teacher

As a yoga teacher, I guide others through calm and movement.

But as a highly sensitive women, that calm didn't always come naturally to me.

Before I found yoga, I often felt overwelmed by the world around me.

Loud enviroments, emotional tension in a room, too many tasks at once, everything hit deep.

I didn't know how to protect my energy without feeling like I had to shut down completely.

Yoga changed that.

Not overnight, but slowly, lovingly and deeply.

Yes I am a Highly sensitive yoga teacher.

Being highly sensitive doesn't mean being weak.

It means being finely tuned to emotions, details, energy, and sensation.

It's both a strength and a challenge.

And it can lead to burnout or emotional fatigue, especially in a fast-paced world that rewards constant output.

Through my yoga journey, I've learned how to:

  • Come back to my body when I get overwelmed
  • Release emotions without holding onto them
  • Recognize my limits and lovingly say no
  • Stay centered even when others are not

Yoga gave me tools I use every single day, not just on the mat, but in real life. And now, I share those same tools with other women like me.

Why yoga is so powerful for highly sensitive women

If you're also highly sensitive, you're probably often overstimulated; mentally, emotionally, or physically. Here's how yoga can help:

It calms your nervous system: Through breath, gentle movement, and stillness, yoga swifts you from fight or flight into rest and digest

It teaches you how to breath through intensity: Learning to stay with discomfort on the mat helps you stay steady off the mat too.

It connects you with your intuition: In the quiet of a yoga practice, your true inner voice becomes easier to hear and trust.

It gives you a space where you don't have to perform: Yoga isn't about being the most flexible or the strongest. It's about showing up, as you are.

A gentle practice for HSPs (Highly sensitive people)

Try this short morning or evening ritual:

  • Start with seated breathing(inhale 4, exhale 6)
  • Come into child's pose and rest for a few minutes
  • End with legs up the wall and feel your energy reset.

Even just 10 minutes can shift your entire day.
